Getting your Texas License To Carry (LTC) is easier than ever. In 2017, the Texas Legislature passed a new law that allowed residents to take the classroom portion of the LTC course online.
Now you don’t have to schedule time to sit in a classroom for 4 to 6 hours. You don’t have to worry about the instructor calling on you to answer a question. You can take the course online on your phone, tablet, or computer. You go at your own pace. Do a little here and a little there or you can binge the entire class wherever and whenever you want. You can go back and review sections as you need as well. Once you complete the course, you will download your certificate and you’re ready to move to the next part.
You will need to schedule a time with a range near you that offers the shooting portion of the course. Texas requires that they teach a 1 hr orientation class before you shoot. You will then do the shooting portion. You will need to bring your firearm, or rent one from the range if you don’t have one yet, and 50 rounds of ammunition. You will be shooting at 3 different distances, 3 yards, 7 yards, and 15 yards. You will need to score 75%, or 175 points out of 250. They will then give you your second certificate for the shooting portion.
Next step is to get your finger prints. There are a number of companies that do fingerprints for your LTC. They can be either digital or paper. Most do digital now and it makes it easier to upload your prints to the state with your application.
Now that you have all of this completed, you fill out the online application and upload your documentation and wait for them to do your background check. Once that is completed you will receive your license in the mail. Make sure that you always have your license on your person, just like your driver license.
Now you can travel to 37 states that recognize the Texas LTC. You can make purchasing other forearms faster and easier.
